For Checkfront operators

A Checkfront website that goes beyond the widget.

Checkfront keeps your bookings, items and availability. We build the website around them: your pages, your calendar and your words, on your own domain. We check API access with you first.

The usual trouble

Your Checkfront bookings show up as “direct”.

Your widget bookings all show up as “direct”.

Checkfront’s own Google Analytics help says bookings made through the Booking Widget “appear as direct”, because GA4 cannot track the referral information. Add to cart, item list views and checkouts are not available in GA4’s Enhanced Ecommerce.1

You can’t add your own tracking pixel.

Checkfront says a custom script, such as a conversion pixel, cannot be added into the widget workflow.2

A custom site needs paid API access.

Checkfront says API access is “not available to Trial users”, and you contact its Sales team to buy it. It also says API V3 is “in maintenance mode and will eventually be replaced by API V4”.3

The teardown

How a Checkfront booking loses its source.

Checkfront’s help pages explain why your bookings lose their source. Step 1 happens every time, and step 3 is where the source is lost. Steps 2, 4 and 5 only happen in some cases, and each one is marked with when.

What we do

Your pages up front, your own tracking on them.

We design your pages, your calendar and everything around the booking on your own site, and connect them to your Checkfront through its API. How far the booking step goes depends on your account, so we check API access and payment with you before we start.

  • Your pages and calendar are designed as part of your site, on your own domain.
  • You decide the words and the order of the page.
  • A booking made through the API is created in your Checkfront.5
  • While a guest completes a booking, Checkfront holds it, so the same slot is not sold twice.6

A few more questions

Is the Checkfront widget good enough for me?

For some operators, yes. You can change its font colour and family, its background colour and language, and add custom CSS.7 What it does not give you is a source for each booking. In GA4, widget bookings show up as direct,1 and your own tracking pixel cannot be added into the widget workflow.2 If you run ads, that is the part to weigh.

Do you build Checkfront websites on WordPress?

Our sites are not WordPress sites and have no plugins, so there is nothing to install or keep updated. We connect to your Checkfront through its API, which you buy through Checkfront’s Sales team.3 If your site is on WordPress today, the new site replaces it, and your domain stays yours.

Can you take payment through the API?

We check this for your account before we start. Checkfront’s API pages describe how a booking is created and held, and do not confirm card payment.5 We do not promise payment on your own site until we have confirmed how it runs for you.

Do I need to buy API access?

Yes. Checkfront says API access is bought through its Sales team and is not available on trials.3 Using it also needs an active subscription.8 As the account holder you then create the application in your Checkfront.9 We check your API access with you on the call.

Does your site remove Checkfront’s fees?

Your Checkfront plan stays as it is, and its fees are Checkfront’s call. Its pricing page lists a 3% online booking fee, and its FAQ says Checkfront does not charge for API-generated bookings.10 We check with you on the call how that works for your plan.

Does my Checkfront keep running the back?

Yes. Your account, plan, items, availability and staff tools stay in Checkfront. We build the website guests see and use.

What do I pay, and when is the site live?

In three payments: a part up front, a part at launch, and a last part 90 days after launch, which you pay only if your website booked more than in the same 90 days last year. We go through the numbers on the call. Checkfront API access is bought through Checkfront, so we confirm yours is in place first. Once it is, your site is live within thirty business days.

Can I see my homepage before I decide?

Yes. A free homepage preview comes first, and we show it to you on a call. You decide after.

Is there a page for my kind of business?

Yes. Read more about websites for tours and activities, adventure trips and retreats. Comparing systems? See our pages for Rezdy and Cloudbeds.

Where the Checkfront facts come from

Every fact about Checkfront on this page was read on Checkfront’s own pages on 30 October 2026. Checkfront changes its pages, so check yours before you decide.
